Currently, Bedfordshire has a three tier system of local govermnment with County, District and local administration. On 1st April 2009 this will change to a two tier system of County and local.

Ampthill is an ancient market town close to Millbrook.

Is the Unitary Authority covering the rural heartland of Bedfordshire, the main offices are located at Chicksands, Shefford.

Ampthill schools serve the local community, with Lower, Middle and Upper Schools located in the Town.

One of two Lower Schools in Ampthill catering for children from reception to year 4 (ages 4 to 9). The other Lower School is Russell School, but children from Millbrook fall into the catchment area of the Firs Lower School.

Middle School catering for children in years 5 to 8 (ages 10 to 13).

Redborne Upper School caters for children from year 9 to the sixth form college (ages 14 to 18). It is also a Community College offering adult education as well.
